Jivan Ram Shrestha

An active leader of CPN-UML, Jivan Ram Shrestha is in politics for the past 30 years. Shrestha was born on December 30, 1965 in Swayambhu, Kathmandu. A father of two sons, Shrestha is the Son of Krishna Ram Shrestha and Basanta Maya Shrestha. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Management. He is contesting from Kathmandu-8 in the CA Election 2013 representing CPN-UML.
He joined politics at the age of 14 years. He was highly influenced by the student protests of 1979. He began his political journey from then an underground party CPN (ML). Shrestha has led the party's ward, city, area, district and valley committees.
Shrestha was involved with anti-Panchayat activities in 1987. He was involved with the Democratic National Youth Association, the UML's youth wing, since its establishment in 1991. He was elected as the association's central member in 1992 and became the chief of the Constructive Department. He later served the association as vice-president and looked after the finance and foreign department.
He was elected as ward chairman of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15 in 1993. In 1997, he was appointed as the member-secretary of the National Sports Council from CPN-UML. He was again appointed in the same post in 2007. Shrestha was elected as CPN-UML's central member by the party's 8th National Convention and currently serves the party as Kathmandu District in-charge.
Shrestha is the incumbent general secretary of the Nepal Olympic Committee for the second term and president of the Nepal Ski Association. He is also a member of International Grass Ski Association and Olympic Council of Asia Peace and Sports Committee.
This is the first time he is contesting in a national election.

People walk for 3-4 hours to vote. The leaders, however, use helicopter to cover a distance of even just an hour's walking distance. Why does the EC not see this?

Those who capture booths are cowards, no matter whichever party carries it out. This is a disregard to the people's ballot. The election should be cancelled if the booth is captured.
