Dipak Giri was born in 1962 in Dang, Hekuli's Sukdewa. He is the son of Lokmani Giri and Chhaya Giri. His family includes his wife, a son and a daughter. He holds a Master's Degree in History from Tribhuvan University. He is contesting from Dang-5 in the CA Election 2013 representing Nepali Congress.

Involved with NC since1977, Giri served as NC chairman of Dang-4 in 1978. He became central member of Nepal Student Union in 1980 but lost the election for FSU chairman of Tri-chandra College in 1983. He also worked as general secretary of Tribhuvan University Students Union.

Giri is currently a central member of NC and has served as the Central Action Committee member during the 1986 civil disobedience campaign. He lost the CA Election in 2008 from Dang-5. He had served as chairman of the Operation Committee of Rapti Babai Multiple Campus in Dang for 12 years.
