Member of UCPN-Maoist's Tharuwan State Committee Secretariat Bhawan Kumar Tharu was born on January 2, 1971 in Badalpur, Krishna Nagar of Bardiya. Known among friends as Bhuwan, Bhawan Kumar Tharu is the son of Purna Bahadur and Belmatiya Tharu. His family now resides in Satariya, Motipur VDC-7. Tharu is contesting from Bardiya-1 in the CA Election 2013 representing UCPN-Maoist.
In the 1991 parliamentary election, Tharu had voted for UML candidate Bamdev Gautam. Interestingly, he is now contesting against Gautam himself.
Tharu joined CPN (Maoist) in 1998. Shortly afterwards, he became involved with the Tharu National Liberation Front. After taking the party membership, he became area committee member. Within four months, he became area secretary, district member in 2000, regional in-charge in 2001, and secretary of Banke and Bardiya in 2004.
Having served as Bheri-Karnali chairman of the All Nepal Peasants Association (Revolutionary) in 2003, Tharu became central member of Tharu National Liberation Front. The same year, the party transferred him to the People's Liberation Army. He then served as the political commissar of the 6th division for eight months.
Having passed the Proficiency Certificate Level from Management Faculty, Tharu had to suffer great losses in life due to politics. His wife Gita Tharu and younger brother Jagat are in a state of disappearance while the wife of his younger brother was killed by the army during the armed conflict.

People walk for 3-4 hours to vote. The leaders, however, use helicopter to cover a distance of even just an hour's walking distance. Why does the EC not see this?

Those who capture booths are cowards, no matter whichever party carries it out. This is a disregard to the people's ballot. The election should be cancelled if the booth is captured.
