Born on June 26, 1956 in Durlung VDC-4 of Parbat, Nav Raj Gurung served as a central vice chairperson of Nepal Student Union and Free Students Union member of Central Campus, Kirtipur.

Ex-district chairperson Gurung served as advisor to Sher Bahadur Deuba during the latter’s tenure as Prime Minister. He remained in teaching profession for 6 years at various campuses.

A post graduate from humanity faculty, Gurung contested from Parbat-1 in 1991’s parliamentary election but lost to Krishna Prasad Bhattrai of CPN-UML.

He has two daughters.
